Swinging Door Locks
In many old jails, the facility is equipped with swinging doors that have been fitted with minimum security narrow-jamb locks. If your facility has these swinging doors, we can replace or repair the old swinging door locks or even change the swinging doors into sliding doors for maximum security.
We retrofit narrow-jamb locks because of the following ways they can be damaged:
- If the door is slammed with the lock bolt extended, the internal deadbolt function is easily damaged.
- If an inmate places a foreign object in the jamb of the door (near the hinges) and slams the door, it can bend the hinge leaf and the door will not close properly.
Our retrofit kits for swinging doors replace the minimum security narrow-jamb locks with a maximum security lock. For this type of retrofit, we typically remove the narrow-jamb lock and weld in the new maximum security lock.
For other facilities, converting the swinging doors to sliding doors is a better solution. For these facilities, we install a transom above the doors and weld a new frame onto the existing doors.
Replacing/repairing the swinging door locks or converting them to sliding doors, ensures that your facility is safer and helps to remove potential liabilities.
